Liebe ist fur alla da

October 20th, 2009

New Rammstein album. Been listening to this over the past two days, thoroughly enjoying it. Possibly their best thus far, although tracks like Ich Will, Ohne Dich and Sonne take some beating :)

I recommend a listen to anyone who is appreciative of that sort of thing :) I’d also recommend the Video to ‘Pussy’ much lols to be had… but I wouldn’t watch it in work ;)

Also in this topic I’ve been introduced to ‘In Extremo’. Quite different to Rammstein but still very good.

Server tests

October 19th, 2009

Another excellent test of my new server ideas.

After booting my home file server from my Ubuntu USB stick I installed zfs-fuse… it automatically found and mounted my zfs drives… awesome!

I’ll have to speed up a little bit as my new server is due to arrive on Wednesday!

Next will be a VMWare server install. Exciting stuff I know ;)

BSG: The Plan

October 19th, 2009

Excellent news, BSG’s The Plan appears to be out. Queued up and time allocated to watch it tonight! :)

Weekend Telly

October 19th, 2009

As with many weekends, I managed to spend this weekend doing nothing productive! :)

So a little TV was watched :)

FlashForward – Watched 4 episodes back to back. A great little show I’m enjoying it thoroughly. It’s also great to see Jack Davenport in something again… and a hobbit! Quite a fascinating premise, I’m looking forward to see where they take the story.

Moonlighting – Continuing to watch this classic 80s show. Really simple and predictable, but Cybil and Bruce are funny to watch :)

Stargate Universe – Progressing nicely. Robert continues to rule. The plot continues to be nice and dark and Eli is a great character!

Armstrong and Miller – An excellent return to this sketch show. I particularly enjoyed the teacher watching the kids take an exam, ace!

Arrested Development – Started to watch this, got through about 8 episodes. Very odd and some quite random things going on, just my kind of comedy!

Flashpoint – Another good episode. I’m not usually a fan of ‘cop’ shows, but the Canadians seem to do it right :)

Sanctuary – Good stuff. Seems we’ve lost the secondary hot girl :( but Amanda Tapping is still all of the lovely. Oh yeah and good plot and story. Been strong since the middle of last season and I’m looking forward to this muchly.

Phew! A busy weekend! It’s hard to believe I also managed 2 decent lie-ins as well. Ah bliss.

‘Knowing’

October 19th, 2009

Watched ‘Knowing‘ this weekend and I was not incredibly impressed.

*SPOILER ALERT*

It was an intriguing enough premise and plot but I just didn’t like what they did with it. I’m not a complete fan of hopelessness, and the ending simply depressed me. I don’t want to talk to much about the film, but I was left with a couple of questions at the end…

Given that an Alien species has the technology to:

  • Travel vast distances through space (and possibly time?)
  • Predict with great accuracy a number of disasters over at least a 50 year period.

Couldn’t they also…

  • Prevent such disasters. I don’t know what it would take to prevent a super flare, or even to shield the earth from one, but it feels within the realms of possibility from the brief glimpse we are given of the species.
  • Evacuate ALL of mankind. Remember this was predicted at least 50 years earlier. An evacuation of the planet could have been organised during that time, surely.

Bottom line then. Not impressed with the film and saddened that Nicholas Cage was a part of it. :(

The height of Geekdom?

October 19th, 2009

While watching an episode of Flight of the Conchords I noticed Jermaine wearing a Babylon 5 uniform during the song ‘Fashion’. I am so sad…

At around 1:45 you can see it quite clearly. youtube

Good Idea, Bad Idea #1

October 19th, 2009

It’s time for another Good Idea, Bad Idea.

Good Idea – “Being appreciative of someone letting you through on the road.”

Bad Idea – “Showing that appreciation by waving, losing control of the bike and falling off.”

Ok.. that didn’t actually happen but I had a distinct wobble when I foolishly tried to wave, change gear and turn all at the same time. Priorities Pie, bike control first, thanks to strangers 2nd. :)

Week 1 in the Big Fatty House

October 19th, 2009

Time and blubber has moved on and we are 1 week into the Big D.

This morning I weighed in 4 lbs lighter than last Monday. A pleasing total I must say, according to my ‘trend’ I’m on course for my goal at the end of February, my aim is for the middle of Feb, but we can work on that.

A good week despite getting the points system backwards is encouraging so we’ll see how this week goes. :)

Day 5

October 16th, 2009

So the Bid D is still ongoing. Exciting stuff 5 days into it.

Was a little disheartened yesterday when I realised that of my 21 ‘points’ I was allowed for the week, I was currently running at 47.5… and the excess can easily be seen to be coming from simple stuff like toast with my breakfast and semi-skimmed milk in my coffee! This happens when you have 4-5 cups per day… and I like a milky coffee (1/4 of a pint in each cup!!).

Today will see a removal of bread from my breakie and a switch from semi-skimmed to skimmed in the coffee.

Which is not to say the D isn’t progressing, it is. I’m seeing a nice downward curve in the weight trend line after simply cutting out the crap, chocolate for example. So hopefully a better understanding of what is ‘pointy’ will get me on an even better track.
